
Curing brake pads is a bit of a balancing act. If you just blast them with heat or let the temperature swing wildly, you’re asking for trouble. Internal stresses build up, and the moment those parts leave the oven, they warp or “spring back.” It’s frustrating, it wastes material, and it kills your margins. We found a better way. Instead of just heating up a big box of air, we use multi-zone infrared (IR) heating. Why zonal control actually matters Standard ovens are slow. They heat the air, and then the air eventually heats the part. You end up with annoying “hot spots” and uneven results. Our approach is different. We use IR emitters split into independent zones. Think of it like having a dimmer switch for different parts of the brake pad. You can push more heat into the center and dial it back on the edges. This lets the resin binder cure exactly how it should without scorching the sides. When you get the ramp-up and soak times right, the material cures uniformly. No stress, no warping. Just parts that actually stay within spec. Handling the heat We use short-wave or medium-wave IR because it punches straight into the friction material. It’s fast. Really fast. But there’s a catch. These high-density arrays pull a lot of power. If you’re installing this, make sure your wiring can handle every single zone running at 100% at once. You don’t want to trip a breaker in the middle of a shift. Also, keep an eye on your conveyor speed. If the belt moves too slowly, the intensity of the IR can scorch the surface. That’s why we use fast-response thermocouples and a solid PID controller—it keeps the surface temp from spiking so you don’t ruin a batch. Keeping it running Nobody wants to tear down an entire oven just because one lamp went out. We designed these systems for quick, drop-in replacements. Swap the tube, flip the switch, and you’re back in business. One last tip: keep your reflectors clean. If dust builds up on those aluminum mirrors, your efficiency tanks. The lamps have to work harder and run hotter to compensate, which just burns them out faster. A little cleaning goes a long way.
