Plus, the way they throw off infrared heat actually sinks deeper into your materials. Getting the power right Since these run on 220V, you can plug them straight into most industrial grids. No bulky transformers cluttering up your workspace. But here is the thing: you’ve got to be careful with the wattage. It depends on how long the filament is and how much heat you’re packing into every centimeter. If you go overboard and pick a lamp that’s too powerful for your project, you’ll probably burn out the filament. It happens when the heat has nowhere to go. The “Magic” Inside We went with a carbon fiber weave for the core. Why? Because it doesn’t warp or expand nearly as much as tungsten or nichrome when things get hot. The quartz tube is there to keep the filament from oxidizing and dying. And because these use radiation rather than convection, you’re heating the actual product, not just the air around it. You don’t have to waste energy heating up the entire oven cavity just to get one part warm. A few things to watch out for When you’re wiring these in, double-check your connectors. Make sure they can handle the heat, or you’ll end up with melted insulation—which is a mess nobody wants. Also, treat these things with care. The quartz is fragile. One wrong move or a hard bump during installation and the seal cracks. Once that happens, the lamp is toast. One last tip: carbon fiber emits a specific wavelength of IR.
