That’s why we build these carbon fiber infrared lamps. We take a carbon fiber filament, wrap it in quartz, and add a white reflective coating. It sounds simple, but it changes everything.
What’s the deal with carbon fiber?
Most people are used to tungsten, but carbon fiber is a different beast. It runs cooler but pumps out a ton of medium-to-long wave infrared radiation. Why the white coating?
Here’s the thing: a normal lamp throws heat in every direction. In a real-world industrial setup, that means half your energy is just warming up the machine frame. It’s a waste. We put a white reflective coating on the back of the tube to bounce all that wasted energy forward. It basically turns a glowing bulb into a targeted beam of heat. A few things to watch out for
If you’re installing these, just keep an eye on your controllers. Carbon fiber has its own specific resistance, and these filaments are a bit moody about voltage spikes. One big surge and—pop—your filament is gone. Also, a heads-up on the heat. That white coating is great for efficiency, but it traps heat inside the housing. If you’re squeezing these into a tight space, don’t skimp on the cooling fans. If the ends of the tube don’t get enough airflow, the seals will give out way too soon. And if you’re swapping these into an old system as a replacement, just double-check that your reflectors are lined up with the new focal point. It only takes a second, but it makes all the difference.
