
Getting Your Textile Drying Right with Carbon Fiber IR Lamps
If you’re running a high-volume textile line, you know the struggle. You need the fabric dry, and you need it done fast, but you can’t risk scorching the surface. That’s exactly why we built these carbon fiber infrared lamps. They run at 235V and come in 1600W or 2000W options. The real magic, though, is in the wavelength. Instead of just searing the top of the fabric, the heat actually sinks into the fibers to push the moisture out from the inside. Which power level do you actually need? It mostly comes down to how fast your conveyor is moving. If you’re pushing for maximum speed, go with the 2000W lamps. They pump out more heat, which means you can crank up the line speed without worrying about damp spots. Just a heads-up: these pull a lot of power. Make sure your supply can handle the load so you aren’t constantly tripping breakers. We usually suggest using solid-state relays (SSRs) if you want your temperature control to be spot on. Why carbon fiber? Most people are used to those standard quartz halogen tubes. But those things can be brittle. Carbon fiber is different. It handles the constant expanding and contracting of heating up and cooling down without snapping. Plus, the heat is focused in the medium-to-long wave spectrum. In plain English? The heat goes deeper. It penetrates the weave of the textile rather than just baking the surface. A few things to watch out for These are designed to be drop-in replacements, so they’re easy to wire up. But here’s the catch: they get hot.Really hot. If you jam them into a housing without proper venting, you’ll bake your reflectors and kill the life of the lamp. Give them some room to breathe. One last thing to keep in mind—these aren’t instant. Unlike shortwave halogen, carbon fiber takes a moment to ramp up. If you’re starting from a cold stop, you’ll need to tweak your PID tuning. Otherwise, those first few meters of fabric might come out a bit damp.
