
Let’s Talk About Carbon Infrared Lamp Holders
If you’ve ever worked with carbon infrared lamps, you know they get incredibly hot. We’re talking about a carbon filament inside a quartz tube that basically turns into a heat monster. Because of that, the holder or clamp isn’t just some random piece of metal holding a bulb in place. It’s actually doing the heavy lifting when it comes to keeping your machine from melting or breaking. We build our clips to keep that heat away from your frame while making sure the electricity flows exactly where it should.
The “Give and Take” of Heat
Here’s the thing: quartz tubes breathe. They expand when they get hot and shrink when they cool down. If you crank a clamp down too tight, the tube has nowhere to go. It’ll just snap under the pressure. But if it’s too loose? Vibration kicks in, the lamp shifts, and suddenly you’ve got uneven heat or—even worse—electrical arcing. That’s why we use spring-tensioned clips. They let the tube “float” just a bit. It gives the glass some breathing room during those rapid power cycles so you aren’t replacing broken tubes every other week.
Getting the Wiring Right
Most of these lamps use R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re built to handle a lot of current, but the connection points have to stay clean and oxidation-free. We use materials that won’t warp or melt when things hit peak temperature. If you have a poor connection, you’ll get “hot spots” at the ends of the lamp. It’s a silent killer for your equipment—it’ll burn out your filament way faster than it should.
Finding the Right Balance
You’ve usually got to make a choice here. A rigid holder is great if you need pinpoint precision, but it’s risky. If your machine vibrates, a rigid hold is a shortcut to a shattered lamp. On the flip side, flexible clips handle vibration like a champ, but the lamp might start to sag over time. Plus, you have to think about your airflow. If the holder is too bulky and blocks the air around the ends of the lamp, you’re basically cooking your own wiring. Just make sure your cooling fans are actually strong enough to move the heat away from those brackets.
