
Why we switched to carbon fiber for food heating
Let’s talk about heat. In food production, waiting for a convection oven to warm up is a nightmare. It’s slow, and it kills your momentum. That’s why we ditched the old tungsten filaments and went with carbon fiber. These lamps use shortwave infrared radiation. In plain English? The heat hits the food almost instantly. It penetrates deep and fast, so you aren’t just warming the surface while the middle stays cold. The nitty-gritty on power When a batch of cold product hits your line, you need the temperature to bounce back immediately. To do that, we push a lot of wattage into a small space. But here’s the thing: you have to be careful. If you cram too much power into a tight housing without enough airflow, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll warp your reflectors or, worse, fry your wiring. Make sure your vents are actually doing their job and moving that ambient heat away from your electronics. What’s actually inside the tube? We weave carbon fiber into a tube and seal it all up in high-purity quartz glass. We use quartz because it doesn’t freak out when the temperature jumps up and down rapidly. As for getting them into your machines, we keep it simple. We use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. They just slide right in. No fuss, no arcing at the terminals, and no headache during installation. Plus, some of our lamps have a special coating. It basically tells the heat, “Go to the food, not the conveyor belt.” It stops you from wasting energy on the machinery. Real-world use If you’re trying to get a perfect sear or keep your moisture levels exactly where they need to be, this is the way to go. These lamps are also tough. Tungsten is brittle and can snap if your packaging line vibrates too much. Carbon fiber can take a beating. It’s rugged. Just one heads-up: these lamps are picky about power. If your voltage spikes, you’ll kill the filament way faster than you should. Double-check that your controllers are calibrated correctly. Keep the power steady, and these things will last.
